NEW Vitamin D Requirements for Children

The American Academy of Pediatrics has increased the recommended daily amount of Vitamin D for newborns to teens to 400IU daily. Eveidence has shown that increased Vitamin D may help prevent serious diseases.
Breast fed infants, children and teens are least likely to get enough Vitamin D from their daily food consumption. The main source of Vitamin D comes from fortified milk, and oily fish such as sardines and tuna, and sunlight. To attain the newly recommended 400IU of Vitmamin D from milk children over the age of one should consume 4 glasses of milk a day. Supplementation has been recommended to easily achieve the newly recommended daily amount.
Mounting research shows that Vitamin D helps not only bone density but suggests that it may reduce the risks for cancers, heart disease and diabetes.
